CEO Peer Groups
When it comes right down to it, running a business is a great experience - challenging, vital and energizing. Still, the demands of the role can feel overwhelming at times. The responsibilities, the pressure to make difficult decisions, the fact that it is indeed "lonely at the top," can be draining. And when your company is blazing a path through the challenging new world of employee ownership, the role becomes even more demanding.
At the Beyster Institute, we've often asked CEOs of employee ownership companies how we can help meet their needs. The answer we’ve gotten most consistently is that they would love to be able to talk with their peers – leaders of other employee ownership companies. That's why we have joined forces with Inner Circle of San Diego and Washington DC to create the Beyster Institute Inner Circle - a CEO network that is designed specifically for leaders of employee ownership companies.
Why This One is Special
There are other CEO peer groups out there, many of them quite good. You may already belong to one. If so, you know how valuable these forums can be. But you also know that if you ask for input on how to improve employee buy-in into ownership, or how to get new hires to grasp the employee ownership idea, or how to most efficiently handle the administration of the program, in most of these groups you'll get only blank stares.
The Beyster Institute Inner Circle is a place where you can raise any matter - including special issues that are unique to companies where employees are shareholders - and get the input of other smart, experienced business leaders. Whether it concerns hiring (and firing), marketing strategy, good vendors, financing methods or personal concerns, if it's something you’d like to run past a group of fellow CEOs, then it's right for this venue.
How It Operates
The Beyster Institute Inner Circles are limited to ten to twelve people who serve as president or chief executive of a company that practices employee ownership. The group gathers once a month for a 3-hour morning meeting. At each meeting, one member gives a detailed presentation on his or her business and personal vision and receives pointed, intelligent, practical feedback. During the remainder of the meeting, the other members share ideas and discuss the varied, sensitive issues and challenges of leading and running their business.
If you want to access the wisdom and experience of other CEOs on all the issues that face you - including how to make the most of employee ownership - get involved in the Beyster Institute Inner Circle!
Groups meet in San Diego the third Tuesday of each month, and in Washington DC the second Tuesday of each month.
